Future Visions of Design, Technology, Architecture and Consumption: The Forward Challenges of Climate Change.
The Future Visions chapter of the Design Leicestershire Book, written by Paul Atkinson (MD of Atkinson Design Associates) leans heavily on the policies of Regan and Thatcher and the hatching of “Big Bang”. This period of the political empowerment of the rich and the headlong pursuit of wealth by this small minority created a profound shift in income disparity that is now the subject of deep debate and social division. Globalisation is a powerful instrument that both influences and cradles such greed…but does it have to? Is there any possibility for players in the global economy to act with moderation, there are a few remarkable examples. Future Visions explores design in the context of exponential development, its impact upon the environment and gives some clues for our uncertain destiny.
“The only real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.”
